A Study On The Impact Of Income Gap Between Industries On TFP In The Yangtze River Economic Belt

The industry income gap will lead to the inequality of income distribution.The level of TFP is an important source of economic development.Both of them have an important impact on the development of economic society.In recent years,the impact of industry income gap on TFP has also attracted scholars’ attention.The research in this field has important policy implications for economic development.This paper takes the Yangtze River economic belt as the research area,analyzes the impact of industry income gap on TFP,which is of great significance to explore the path of high-quality development of the Yangtze River economic belt.On the basis of summarizing the research results of industry income gap and TFP,this paper analyzes the mechanism of industry income gap affecting TFP from three aspects: human capital,market demand and industrial structure.At the same time,the absolute index and relative index are used to measure and analyze the industry income gap of the Yangtze River economic belt,and DEA Malmquist index method is used to measure and analyze the total factor productivity of the Yangtze River economic belt.Then,the empirical research on the relationship between the industry income gap and TFP in the Yangtze River economic belt is carried out,in which the comprehensive FGLS regression is used to analyze the change relationship between the two,and the above three mechanisms are tested and analyzed through the intermediary effect model.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)the income of the industry in the Yangtze River economic belt shows a gradual upward trend.The income growth rate of each industry is different.The income ranking of the industry changes weakly.The industry with average wage in the upstream and downstream is basically unchanged.The income of agriculture,forestry,animal husbandry and fishery has been in the lowest level.The absolute gap of industry income in the Yangtze River economic belt is on the rise,and the trend of relative gap of industry income is different,but compared with2003,most provinces and cities show a downward trend.(2)The total factor productivity of the Yangtze River economic belt is increasing year by year.The improvement of the total factor productivity of all provinces and cities mainly comes from technological progress.(3)The industry income gap and TFP in the Yangtze River economic belt show a U-shaped change relationship,with a critical value of 0.0790.At present,the industry income gap is on the left side of the U-shaped critical value,that is to say,the industry income gap in the provinces and cities of the Yangtze River economic belt plays a restraining role in the promotion of TFP.(4)Trade openness,infrastructure level,marketization level and urbanization level in the Yangtze River economic belt have significant influence on TFP,among which trade openness,marketization level and urbanization level play a positive role,while infrastructure level has a negative relationship with it.(5)The mediating effects of human capital,market demand and industrial structure on total factor productivity are significant.Among them,the mediating effects of human capital account for 11.29% of the total mediating effects,the mediating effects of market demand account for 49.37%,and the mediating effects of industrial structure account for 39.34%.Therefore,in order to improve the total factor productivity of the Yangtze River economic belt,we should reduce the industry income gap,improve the level of technological innovation,expand the opening up,improve the degree of marketization,improve the level of urbanization,increase the input of human capital,expand the market demand and promote the upgrading of industrial structure.
