Abstract/Summary:
Climate change, over the short and long-term, will bring many changes to earth's natural and built environments. There will be implications for health and social sectors, natural resources management, and land use planning. Of concern in this thesis are climate change impacts to Yukon, and their implications for community planning.;Climate change impacts of relevance to community planners are described by sector, along with potential planning responses. The final part of this thesis makes recommendations on how Yukon community leaders and planners can incorporate climate change information into Yukon community planning.;In order to understand the existing situation in the Yukon, I undertook two primary research tasks. The first was a questionnaire, administered to Yukon planners, asking about the significance of climate change information in their planning projects. The second involved a review of existing Yukon community plans to determine what reference is made to the impacts anticipated from climate change. The overall result of the primary research indicated that Yukon planners are concerned with climate change, however it has not been addressed to any great extent in Yukon community plans.
