| During environmental site assessments, Hydro-Quebec's subcontractors need to follow quality assurance planning and audit quality with quality control. While in the process of soil characterization, an issue emerged regarding quality auditing on dioxins and furans. Soil duplicates were analyzed with samples concentration lower than quantification limit leading to the impossibility of auditing for quality. Dioxins and furans analysis is the most expensive chemical analysis offered by laboratories. The situation led Hydro-Quebec to ask for a quality control program applied to dioxins and furans.;Finally, a test was conduct using the documentation and the computer software. This test has permitted to collect results which were valid and statistically representative. The test conclusions were positive regarding the use of the computer software, even if some upgrades could be made to better respond to some chemical parameter and Hydro-Quebec's needs.;Keywords: Dioxins and furans, quality control, sampling; The research project has permitted the synthesis of documentation related to quality assurance and quality control in analytical chemistry and environmental sampling. Scientific articles, books and official publications were consulted in this research process. Based on the synthesis, a quality assurance program and quality control audit plan have been created. To help subcontractors, a computer software to use along with the documentation produced has also been created. This tool help to achieve cost effective quality control measures while insuring data validity and also produce harmonized quality control reports. |
