Abstract/Summary:
Room Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs) have a wide variety of applications in analytic techniques. The Stalcup group is interested in using ionic liquids in stationary phases for the separation of biological molecules by HPLC. This thesis focuses on the synthesis of a butylimidazolium bromide Surface Confined Ionic Liquid (SCIL) stationary phase. Model L-histidine-based ionic liquids were also synthesized for potential use in chiral ionic liquid stationary phases for HPLC.
