| The effects of rectangular tabs, at the outlet of a three-dimensional wall jet, for its vertical and span-wise developments have been experimentally investigated. The wall jet is produced using a rectangular jet ejected from the outlet of a blowing wind tunnel over a smooth flat surface. The experiments were carried out at a jet mean velocity of 10 m/sec. which corresponds to an approximate Reynolds number based on the vertical jet dimension of 8685. The tabs were rectangular thin metal plates placed at the jet outlet, either at the top mid side, or at the mid-sections of the three unbounded sides, protruding into the jet. Single hot wire measurements were made at various stream-wise and span-wise locations for the plane jet, the jet with one tab, and the jet with three tabs. Results indicate that with a single tab, the span-wise entrainment is enhanced, while with the three tabs the vertical entrainment is increased. The increase in the span-wise entrainment should result in enhanced film cooling applications. |
