Abstract/Summary:
The reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine concept is attractive due to its high efficiency and low emissions over a wide range of operating conditions. However, due to its special fuel intake manner, the combustion process in RCCI engines is complex, rendering several difficulties of its combustion process modeling. First of all, dual-fuel combustion mechanisms with compact size and robust accuracy are critical to model the combustion process of RCCI engines. Then, the co-existence of diffusion flame, auto-ignition and flame propagation in RCCI engines necessitates a unified combustion model for considering all these three different combustion types. Moreover, the chemistry stiffness in the multi-dimensional engine combustion simulations causes prohibitive computational cost. Hence, this thesis proposed advanced numerical algorithms to solve these problems.
