Abstract/Summary:
With the increase in demand for environment-friendly automobiles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) becomes a preferred choice as automotive industries are focusing on research and development of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and electric vehicle (EV). Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are gaining popularity because of the environmental consideration "Go green" factor. A PHEV requires an AC outlet charging system for charging the battery. An AC-DC converter with bidirectional dc-dc converter battery charger has been proposed and associated control strategy for battery charging/discharging has been presented. The proposed PHEV charger operates at unity power factor, which is a requirement of the standards.;Different battery-charging techniques have been studied and simulated. Also different scenarios considering the impact of the PHEV on the electric power distribution system have been studies and simulated. All the simulations have been performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
