Abstract/Summary:
Leucoptera coffeella --coffee leaf miner- is one of the principal pests of coffee in Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico have been reported 16 species of parasitoids over larvae of L. coffeella being Mirax insularis the parasitoid with higher rates of parasitation. In current researches are not recorded closer estimates of their reproductive potential or parasitation on L. coffeella; for this reason, it is important to confirm the presence of M. insularis , estimating the percentage of population with the other species of parasitoids and their reproductive potential. The results confirm that M. insularis is the most abundant parasitoid in the three neighborhoods evaluated. Two pairs of M. insularis are able parasitize 5% of larvae Instar 1% and 7% of larvae Instar 2. The level of parasitation in laboratory studies was: 27% and 35% using parasitoids 60 and 80 respectively, on larvae Instar 2 per experimental unit of 10 trees of coffee.
