Abstract/Summary:
Wellness practices in a major insurance company in the United States were researched and compared to those in other businesses. Methods of research included an internal assessment of USM Company's local and enterprise wide wellness efforts and research of benchmark companies identified by the Wellness Council of America. Wellness statistics were utilized to showcase possible savings to the organization from smoking cessation, increased activity and proper nutrition. The importance of community and government partnerships was also shown to benefit the organization in their wellness effort.;USM, although good intentioned, had scattered wellness resources, lacked consistency and did not have an enterprise wellness vision. Due to available nursing staff, technology and marketing capability, USM is well positioned to implement best practices and capture results. To achieve results, USM must capitalize and expand upon key areas such as executive leadership support, data collection, employee needs, goal identification and outcome evaluation.
