Abstract/Summary:
The orchestral audition process is fraught with daunting barriers. Candidates put forth significant effort in acquiring orchestral excerpt parts, and source recordings. In an effort to aid in the preparation and execution of these auditions, a Web site has been designed specifically for trombonists, offering orchestral excerpts and recordings as multi-media content. TromboneExcerpts.org contains printable excerpts from original orchestral trombone parts and numerous audio recordings of orchestras playing these excerpts in context. Professional, student, and amateur trombonists can use this Web site as a pedagogical tool to identify weaknesses in their orchestral playing that need to be addressed with corrective work during practice. In theory, practice and repeated listening lead to higher caliber players, more successful auditions, and eventually higher caliber orchestral performances. The purpose of TromboneExcerpts.org is to help trombonists with this process, and this document details the development, content, technical design, editorial considerations, copyright issues, and future plans for the Web site.
