Abstract/Summary:
Oboe repertoire by South African composers is generally unknown to the international oboe community. This document annotates a list of oboe music by South African composers, detailing 106 works, for solo oboe as well as chamber literature up to six players, by forty five composers. Each entry includes a brief biography of the composer, original title of the piece, composition date, instrumentation, publishers and date of publication, commissions, dedications, and duration of the piece in minutes and seconds. The entry also has the location of the work in South African Libraries and occasional, miscellaneous notes on the piece. Incipits of each movement are included as well as the movement title/tempo marking.Works containing vocal parts and student compositions created in fulfillment of a degree have been omitted. Works by non-native South Africans who have settled and completed most of their work in South Africa are included as well as works by composers born and educated in South Africa who have emigrated to other countries. This bibliography includes all the music found up to the end of 2009 within the geographical region of South Africa.
