In this paper, however, I intend to point out six ways in which this doctrine of transmigration is not a complete picture of what happens to the soul in the afterlife. I will then attempt to outline what I believe to be Plato's complete picture of the soul in the afterlife. This picture, which is rooted in the Orphic tradition, attempts to include Plato's notion of universal soul into Plato's account of the individual soul. The result of acknowledging this additional aspect of Plato's philosophy is that individuality to human souls becomes a temporary and unfortunate condition. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Soul, Individual, Plato's | | Related items |
