The author examined Louisiana courthouse officials' attitudes on, and practices of, closing citizen access to court (judicatory) records. This study identified laws on access to government records, particularly court records; verified inventory of sealed records; and discovered practices to close access to judicatory records. It analyzed a paper questionnaire survey of Louisiana District Court Judges (N = 236), and a telephone interview of Louisiana District Clerks of Court (N = 65). The findings of the study illustrate varying attitudes toward access to records and official court practices. The evidence also highlights the need to reinvent, update, and standardize Louisiana's sealed record practices. |
