Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to develop a program, identify potential funding sources, and complete a grant application to fund the program. An extensive literature review increased the knowledge about the multiple needs of substance abusing mothers in the child welfare system, which include unemployment, housing, education, childcare, and transportation. The program that was developed focuses on addressing these needs with substance abusing mothers at the Social Services Agency of Orange County. The ultimate goal is to help these mothers achieve self-sufficiency and build better futures for their families.;A search for potential funding sources via the Internet and a grant database resulted in the selection of the Weingart Foundation as the most compatible funding source for this project. A grant was then written to support the program. Actual submission and/or funding of the grant were not required for the successful completion of this project.
