Abstract/Summary:
Legal brothels dedicated to the practice of female prostitution exist in Nevada's Storey County. These are located less than fifteen miles, immediately across a county border, from the Reno/Sparks Metropolitan area in Washoe County, which has banned prostitution. As the metropolitan area continues to expand eastward toward the brothels, and Storey County experiences its own economic upsurge and subsequent development, the question of the continued legality prostitution in Storey County becomes less than purely theoretical and more concrete in terms of issues in urban and regional planning, where adjoining jurisdictions may bring to the table quite divergent notions of propriety and tolerance.; Given the history of prostitution policy in the area, counties in Nevada have no legal recourse against each other with regard to local prostitution policy. Therefore, geographical position of legal brothels in relation to another counties' urban growth and expansion is not an issue that can be addressed at the county level. Any issues will have to be addressed by the Nevada State Legislature, where previous attempts have indeed proved unsuccessful. Ultimately, the future of legal prostitution in Storey County lies with the (changing) population of Storey County alone.
