Abstract/Summary:
This research examines motor vehicle related accidents that resulted in injuries to law enforcement officers in Illinois. The literature review revealed statistical information relating to law enforcement officers killed as a result of motor vehicle related accidents. Statistical data concerning officers injured, as the result of motor vehicle related accidents was not comprehensive or easily obtainable.;The literature review revealed that there are two primary sources of information relating to motor vehicle related accidents involving law enforcement officers. They are The Arizona Blue Ribbon Panel and The International Association of Chiefs of Police Highway Safety Committee's subcommittee called the Law Enforcement Stops and Safety Subcommittee.;This study identifies the number of motor vehicle related accidents that resulted in an injury or in the death of a police officer in Illinois from 2004 to 2006. The rate of these accidents are compared by regions of the state and the urbanization of the county they occurred in.
