| Globalization in semiconductor design and manufacturing has resulted in reduction of cost for System On Chip (SOC) design. However, the issue of Trojan Hardware has raised serious concerns about the outsourcing of chip design and fabrication. Trojan Hardware is a malicious circuit inserted by the attacker to alter the functionality of a chip. While the outsourcing of SOC design cannot be stopped, the increasing complexity and distribution in SOC design has increased vulnerabilities Trojan Hardware.;In this work, three types of threats posed by Trojan Hardware - Information Leakage, Denial of Service and Privilege Escalation has been introduced. Each attack is then considered for the fundamental components of SOC - CPU, Memory, Interconnect and Peripherals. The analysis shows that each component of SOC is susceptible to atleast one category of attacks. This work further shows that the characteristics of trojan hardware are different for each component in SOC. |
