As home internet users continue to increase their online presence through internet connected devices, malicious actors have begun to take notice. With an ever-increasing online footprint come additional attack vectors into our home networks by insecure devices such as IP cameras and the Internet of Things. Large organizations are able to mitigate these threats through investments in cybersecurity measures, however there are no dedicated security appliances designed for the home internet user.;The purpose of this thesis is to develop and determine the effectiveness of a home network defense system utilizing a single-board computer. This aims to begin filling the gap in home network security by providing an inexpensive, easy to use, scalable solution designed specifically for the household. In addition to the direct application of this system in a live network, this work also serves as a starting point for other researchers pursuing methods to better protect homes and small businesses from complex network based attacks.
