Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between religiosity with attitudes and practices in the division of labor in the family. Data from the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) 2002 General Social Survey (GSS) were used to test the effect that religious participation and personal fundamentalism had on the practices and attitudes of the division of household labor. A higher involvement in religious participation demonstrated a more traditional attitude and practice of how household duties were divided in the family. Similarly, a higher level of personal fundamentalism also influenced a more traditional attitude and practice toward the division of labor. These findings suggest that religiosity plays an important role in the function of the gendered division of labor within the family.
