Abstract/Summary:
There is a continuing need for the development of guides and teaching tools that incorporate the use of Human Factors design principles. Designers, as learners, will benefit by interacting with systems that combine current theory with practical application.Through research of the principles developed by such pioneers as Piaget, Erikson, Marlana Coe, Thomas Gad, and others, designers can obtain an understanding of the vital role that Human Factors plays in a successful design.Research is not always enough. To supplement traditional methods such as interviews and Semantic Differential Testing (SDT), this author created a mock company and incorporated it directly into the thesis as a corporate branding template to further test the Human Factors theories. The company's name is KOAN.Test results indicated that KOAN's brand selection was successful. The results also indicate that the KOAN model can be a successful teaching tool for use in both academic and corporate settings.
