Abstract/Summary:
The categories and themes emerging from this data were examined in a quantitative analysis taken from single-family homeowners that reside within a 100-year flood plain or zone in Atlanta, Georgia. This study focused on the differences in attributes of single-family homeowners that purchase flood insurance. The study examined the variables identified as attributes of age, gender, experience, income, and perception of vulnerability. This study asked the participants 18 questions that were designed to describe the sample, and capture the beliefs and opinions on the topic of flood insurance. Of the 350 participants solicited to take the Web-based survey, 54 (18%) responded. Data was analyzed utilizing the SPSS Statistical Software, whereby Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney U, and Spearman Rho statistical test analyzed the data with descriptive and inferential statistics. There were five hypotheses tested. The results indicated that a significant difference did not display with hypotheses 1, 2, 3, or 5. However, a significant difference did display with hypothesis 4.
