Abstract/Summary:
This research study examined the potential impacts of technology on the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) through utilizing a corporate intranet that supports the development of interprofessional communities of practice (Cops). It also examined how adopting new technology affects organizational cultural trends and how technical training contributes to the effective adoption of new technology. The opportunity for this study was to assist the PHSA in gaining a better understanding of how training on Internet technology may help to develop CoPs while affecting culture. An in-depth discussion and exploration of the organizational background provided context for this research to explore CoPs, the cultural cross-generational impacts of learning new technology, and training strategies. The study used an action research methodology with focus groups and an intranet based survey as methods of data collection. Ethical issues are considered and discussed related to the sponsoring organization and Royal Roads University policies.
