Abstract/Summary:
In the context of a worldwide decreasing availability of traditional energy sources the European Union is trying to secure its energy supply. On the other hand, Russian companies are lacking financial resources to tap their energy sources and to increase their energy efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to study the possibility of increasing energy cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Russian Federation (RF) through cooperative ways of financing energy projects in the Russian Federation, with respect to generating a win-win situation for the European Union and the Russian Federation.;The method used in this paper is to first give an overview of the context within which EU-Russian energy cooperation takes place, to analyse whether or not cooperative ways of financing energy projects in the Russian Federation can help generate sustainable economic growth in both the European Union and the Russian Federation, and to identify ways of improving EU-Russian energy cooperation. Second, existing ways of financing EU-Russian energy cooperation are listed, and their priorities and mechanisms are described.
