Abstract/Summary:
The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of structural vibrations on unsteady oblique shock waves and to test control methods in order to reduce pressure oscillations. This study is motivated by the lack of understanding of the effects of flexible structures on high-speed flows and their interactions with shock waves. To this end, the Euler and beam equations are coupled and solved using an essentially non-oscillatory scheme. Our results indicate that for a high amplitude excitation of the beam, a reduction in pressure oscillations in the supersonic flow can be achieved. The results also indicate that besides excitation amplitude, the phase of the beam excitation is an important parameter of the system.
