Abstract/Summary:
The residual stress and deformation due to differing boundary conditions in a hard x-ray mirror is studied. Through the use of finite element analysis, a hybrid approach is employed to investigate the residual Von Mises stresses and deformations. The mirror is electroformed on an cylindrical aluminum mandrel using a high strength alloy. Experimental measurements obtained from an earlier investigation of the shell profiles were applied to generate the deformation contour of the mirror under loading. The objective of this research is to quantify and develop an understanding of the residual stress produced in the mirror due to different constraint conditions under gravity loading.
