The study is conducted in the context of synthetic design of open architecture from 3- and 4-connected polyhedral centers.;The first set of 3 zincophosphites was prepared under hydrothermal conditions from HF-containing media under mildly basic pH (from 8.1 to 9.4). Their 3-dimensional frameworks consist of alternating ZnO46- tetrahedra and HPO32- trigonal pyramids with an overall composition of [Zn3(HPO3)4] 2-. The topology was analyzed by converting these zincophosphites from a (3,4)-connected network into a 4-connected framework. The results taken together suggest that the symmetry and charge density of the 3 different structure-directing agents dictate the symmetry and framework density of the resulting inorganic frameworks. These zincophopsphites are identified as structural analogs of the known hydrogenphosphates, which helps to better understand their formation mechanism and suggests that the difference between -P-H and -P-OH groups plays an insignificant role in the formation of these phosphite and hydrogenphosphate open frameworks.
