Abstract/Summary:
For centuries, the ocean has been perceived as unyielding to the growing demand of man's appetite. Through the play of the "familiar" in chosen materials, processes, and presentation, I share my creative research on the issues and practices of overfishing. Through this body of work, I explore my struggles as a consumer of fish. I share with my viewers my own vulnerable state, but also invite them to consider their own consumption. In that process of visual interaction, I make note to the "active" viewing participant---and that we have been a participant all along while observing and interacting with my work.;In that moment of realization, I welcome my fellow participating viewer, and consumer of fish, to join in on the conversation on what our future "fish" meal will be.
