Abstract/Summary:
Open pit mine production planning and scheduling is one of the most important stages of any mining project. In this step, a plan that shows the way of extraction of the valuable asset of mine, ore, is developed. Thus, the open pit mine production planning must be concerned well to build a good schedule of extraction. Medium/short-term mine production scheduling provides an operational scheme for mining while tracking the strategic plan. In this thesis, a mixed integer programming (MILP) model is developed for medium/short-term mine production scheduling. The model aims to minimize the summation of operational costs such as waste rehabilitation, processing, mining, haulage, and rehandling costs. The developed MILP model is applied to a dataset regarding an iron ore open pit mine in two separate case studies and then the results are interpreted using plots to verify the applicability of the model in terms of mining practice.
