In this thesis, a microscopic traffic model, the Intelligent Driver Model, is studied. This Intelligent Driver Model can generate realistic features of traffic flow. I conduct simulations applying this Intelligent Driver Model to non-periodic-single lane freeway traffic with a certain range of slowdown area. The effect of the slowdown area on the entire traffic flow is studied. One of the objectives of these simulations is to obtain a phase transition line between states of traffic jam and states of non-traffic jam.
