Abstract/Summary:
This thesis compares attitudes and roles of landscape architects, architects, and land planners in north/central Texas and Sweden when it comes to designing and planning for biological diversity at the community/ecosystem level. The assessment includes an investigation of factors affecting the attitudes and roles of landscape architects and architects in the two regions, such as education of landscape architects and architects, public awareness level of biological diversity, budgetary concerns, and culture.; A mail-out survey, composed of both open and closed-ended questions was used to gather information from private landscape architecture and architecture practitioners and city employed land planners in north/central Texas and in Sweden. A cross-cultural approach was taken in order to be able to compare how the different factors affect the attitudes and roles of the landscape professionals.
