Abstract/Summary:
This paper will explore the ways in which heterosexual women negotiate their fatness in romantic relationships by providing information on how cultural and societal norms that vilify the fat body play a key role in the ways that women communicate when it comes to romance, love, and sex. By highlighting popular cultural texts, interviewing participants, providing theoretical information about the fat body, and using an autoethnographic look at the fat body, I intend to show that women are so much more than their fat, and more importantly, they are capable of thriving romantic relationships. The study will provide five in-depth interviews where women who are in relationships, have been in relationships, or seeking relationships negotiate their fat within the realm of heterosexual romantic partnerships.
