Abstract/Summary:
This Thesis explores and concludes that theatre can be used as a successful outreach tool in society to bring communities together. This study explores the effectiveness of non-traditional methods of theatre in building and bonding diverse relationships in communities. The theoretical base outlines methods and theories of Sociodrama developed by Jacob Levy Moreno (1889--1974) and Community theory developed by Charles Josiah Galpin (1864--1947). The thesis presents information from a study administered by Dr. Kathy Hicks, coordinator of evaluations with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Also a community theatre production of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, organized and administered by the author, endeavored to bond a diverse population of rural Texas.
