Abstract/Summary:
In this thesis we used centralized area-specific data, collected in the 1990's by members of the Tuberculosis Investigation Unit (TIU) University College Dublin, concerned with bovine tuberculosis in wildlife and cattle. We conducted two independent studies, one regarding bovine tuberculosis in a badger populations, and a second study on bovine tuberculosis in cattle herds. The purpose of the study on badgers was, make a descriptive of the data coming from 4 different areas in the Republic of Ireland, and to investigate whether or not tuberculous badgers have a clustered distribution within a sett or within a geographical area. The data came from periodic targeted badger-removal activities and subsequent post-mortem examinations conducted between 1989 and September 1997, and from a formal large-scale badger-removal project in the same areas from 1997 through 1999.
