Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund three positions at a non-profit agency: 1 full-time social with a Master in Social Work degree and experience in working with homeless older adults, 1 full-time administrative assistant and 1 part-time computer literacy tutor.; An extensive literature review increased knowledge about the issues of homelessness within the older adult population and provided information about the special needs of the homeless older woman, 50 plus that the grant writer then used to develop a grant addressing specific needs of this group of women.; A search for potential funding sources utilized the Internet, Los Angeles Small Business resources and a grant database that resulted in the selection of the Community Development Block Grant for the City of Compton as the best funding source for this project. A grant was then written to support the addition of three additional positions for the Salvation Army Compton Corps in the City of Compton to develop, implement and provide social services and case management to the homeless older adult with emphasis on the homeless woman 50 plus.
