Mode-shape is used for improved operation of interconnected power grids. The impact of forced oscillations on estimating mode-shape from time-synchronized phasor measurements is assessed. A mode-shape algorithm incorporating a forced-oscillation component is mathematically derived. This provides a basis for a hypothesis of how the forced oscillation impacts the algorithm. The hypothesis is tested via a four-machine simulations and simulations of a reduced-order model of the western North American Power System. |
