Abstract/Summary:
This is a thematic lesson plan unit using the theme of a butterfly symbolizing life and change. These lessons were designed for a Self-Contained Special Education high school class, students ages 14--21. The students have a variety of classifications: Communication Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, Multiple Disabilities, Auditory Impaired, and Autism. Some students are non-readers and those that do read are on a pre-K to 2nd grade independent reading level. These students are not in school, at this point, to expand on their academic knowledge base. They are in school to be part of a life-skills work training program to place them in jobs in the community by the time they reach age 21. This unit gives them a general exposure to this particular period in world history.
