Abstract/Summary:
This case study examines the receivership program, as a judicial remedy, as administered by the Buffalo Housing Court in Buffalo New York. The study works to describe the creation of the program and its performance from October of 2010 to October of 2011. As a judicial remedy administered by the Buffalo Housing Court, this case study's results indicate that the receivership program is sustainable, purposeful and appropriate in keeping with the courts' mission statement. Numerous properties placed in receivership were resolved in a steadfast and legal manner. This study asserts that limits should be placed on the length of time that a property may be placed in receivership, as well as the creation of vacant housing index. This study sets the foundation for further academic analysis of this program by characterizing the receivership program and making recommendations for its future administration.
