Abstract/Summary:
This research study examined how Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) can promote employees' achievement of personal mastery to enhance their professional performance. In particular, the November 2005 study focused on organizational culture, leadership, personal mastery, and the effects of systems on personal mastery through interviews with seven managers, personal bankers, and customer service representatives. Although the results from this study sample limited the determination of specific trends, the results indicated several strong themes: a balanced work and home life; continuous learning; and the importance of organizational culture on individual mastery. The study has two recommendations. First, CIBC could further enhance its existing learning environment by supporting internal and external learning for employees. Second, CIBC could create additional ways in its organizational culture to support work and lifestyle. These two recommendations could further enhance CIBC's employee commitment, which supports overall organizational performance and success.
