Abstract/Summary:
In this thesis, a method for the inspection of incoming materials has been proposed which integrates Shainin lot plot technique of acceptance sampling by variables and goodness-of-fit tests. This method uses variables data to make a decision of accepting or rejecting a lot. Moreover, the method incorporates the formulas for calculations of percentage beyond specification limits after finding the appropriate distribution for the data set. This method questions application of methods assuming normal distribution and emphasizes on finding an appropriate distribution for inspection purposes. Two software packages, i.e., Minitab and Excel have been used for analysis in this thesis. Two case studies have been shown. Case Study 1 was based on the analysis of actual measurements taken from an incoming product received by a manufacturing industry. Case Study 2 was based on the analysis of simulated data to show the application of the proposed methodology in case of non-normal data.
