Abstract/Summary:
This research investigates the drop-on-demand mode of single droplet generation and deposition methods for rapid prototyping, and studies the control parameters by photographing droplet emerging process and measuring pressure variation in generator cavity.; The pressure measurement shows that pressure inside oscillates, first rising and then dropping to a negative value. The oscillation frequency depends only on the dimensions of cavity. Droplet size is mainly determined by nozzle size.; The study of water and tin droplet generation reveals that single droplets can be produced by changing solenoid valve opening time, nitrogen supply pressure, or vent hole size. Oxidation effect strongly influences not only size of droplets formed, but also direction in which they travel, thus precision of droplet deposition.; Final study of 0.58 mm tin droplets depositing on a substrate demonstrates that droplets could be deposited in patterns with an accuracy of 0.05 mm.
