Abstract/Summary:
Published research on springs in Anderson County is scarce. This study investigated three springs and two flowing wells and determined their effect on the chemistry of Catfish Creek. The springs emanate from the Queen City sands. Ion balances, piper diagrams and box plots were used to analyze water chemistry. These systems are dominated by the sulfate anion and by sodium and potassium cations. Because sulfate increases slightly in the downstream direction, the springs and wells may have a slight effect on the chemistry of Catfish Creek. Future studies should include year-round sampling in order to establish a more complete understanding of the chemical nature of these systems.
