Abstract/Summary:
An irreversible, aqueous, liquid phase, second order saponification reaction was processed in a micro-scale reactor. The microreactor provides improved fluid contacting, resulting in increased heat and mass transfer rates. The experimental result was analyzed to determine the correlation of reaction parameters for the microreactor.; After a series of sample analyses via GUMS, the experimental model equation was determined to be: In (CA) = −0.0007 t −2.6039. The model equation representing the experimental data shows a resemblance to that of a CSTR. This may be due to the similarities in fluid mixing in the two reacting systems.; The proposed relationship between the reactant concentration and residence time is indicated by: ln (CA) = (−4.0E-5) τ −2.6039. Additionally, the conversion as a function of residence time was determined to be: XA = −10[e (−0.00004τ−2.6039) − 0.1.
