his thesis is concerned with the axial dispersion and mass transfer characteristics of air assisted multi-screen liquid-liquid extraction columns. The continuous phase dispersion coefficient was determined from the responses to both the steady-state and transient-state tracer injection techniques. It was found that these response curves could be best represented by the dispersion model (Levenspiel, 1972).;The plate structure, gas flow rate, column diameter, and liquid flow rates of both continuous and dispersed phases were found to have significant effects on the axial dispersion coefficient.
