Abstract/Summary:
This thesis proposal addresses two major correlated issues in switched reluctance motors: torque ripple and rotor position sensing. It presents a general solution method for smooth torque production in switched reluctance motors. Specifically a rotating vector analysis of the switched reluctance motor is developed. A current vector is then derived which produces smooth torque in a switched reluctance motor with an arbitrary number of phases excited. The thesis also presents self-sensing techniques for estimating position and velocity without additional rotor position sensors. The methods are suitable for high performance control of switched reluctance motors. motors.
