Abstract/Summary:
This thesis builds off of current scholarship regarding the narrative function of prophecies and curses in Greco-Roman epics and seeks to expand the discussion into other epic traditions. To pursue this goal, this thesis examines three medieval British Isle epics, the Tain , the Mabinogion, and Beowulf, in order to indicate that the prophecies and curses in these works fulfill the same narrative function but with culturally specific forms.
