Abstract/Summary:
In an effort to explain the current state of hypertext literature, specifically the hypertext novel, this project focused on discovering some of the reasons why hypertext novels have faded in popularity. The project included a pilot study in which participants read from a piece of hypertext fiction while being recorded with a piece of usability testing software. After the reading session was completed, the participants were then interviewed and asked to discuss their personal reading habits and thoughts about hypertext fiction. This project also examined the rhetorical implications of user expectations for online reading and writing.
