Abstract/Summary:
This doctoral thesis studies Spanish women's fiction, written in Spanish and published during the Spanish post-war years (1940–1960), both in Spain and in the exile. The work is organized in two long sections: in the first place the theoretical and critical analysis is tackled and then we are introduced to the bio-bibliographical catalogue followed by the appendixes to the whole work.; The theoretical analysis consists of a sociological approach which examines the degree of discrimination that has affected Spanish post-war women's fiction, as well as the historical, critical and literary circumstances affecting the edition and diffusion of these works.; The first chapter starts with a critical reading of the canon studies about the Spanish post-war fiction; it is confirmed here that women's fiction has been alienated and it has deserved neither readings nor suitable assessments practically until our days. Next, we are provided with a revision of this branch of literature, going deeply into the historical and cultural atmosphere which determines it. Not only are the cultural circumstances affecting the origin, content and formal features analyzed but also those surrounding their publication and circulation.; Furthermore, in this section the most outstanding works, many of them unknown now a days, are also commented and they are put into groups and organized both by chronological criteria and literary genres.; The second section consists of a detailed catalogue where the basic documents about works subjected to study (205 novels) are recorded. The records give information about edition, content, literary awards, adaptations to the cinema or theatre, re-editions and translations of the novels under study. Moreover, various indexes make it possible to organize the texts according to different criteria such as chronology, diffusion, theme, form etc. The catalogue also contains basic information about the biography of the women writers mentioned in the work, a total of 77.; Finally, different appendixes supply empirical data and supplementary information of varied interest.
