Abstract/Summary:
Choreographer/Dancer, Adrian Ravarour, Videographer for Jacob's Pillow and LA's Dance Video Center, presents the aesthetic concerns and training necessary for becoming a dance videographer. Chapter One reviews books on dance videography. Chapter Two posits my dance aesthetics as a product of my dance training and professional dance work. Chapter Three reveals my video production training as a director and growth as a dance videographer. Chapter Four presents aesthetics for camera composition, framing and strategies for recording dance, furthering a synchronous connection between the dance, the dancer, and the dance videographer. Chapter Five presents conclusions concerning the training and aesthetics of dance videography as best performed by persons who know both forms, dance and video. The thesis is followed by my dance videography for Jacob's Pillow, in 1996 and 1997, a bibliography, and additional supporting materials related to my professional work as a dance videographer.
