| The purpose of this project was to provide an in-depth policy analysis of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA; Public Law No.106-386) that addresses its strengths and weaknesses, as well as its relevance to social work practice.;The results of this study suggest that the TVPA has made small yet important strides in the fight against human trafficking. These include providing social services for survivors of human trafficking, allocating grant monies for international and domestic anti-trafficking efforts, and creating a more comprehensive definition of trafficking to aid in the prosecution of trafficking perpetrators. However, findings also indicate that these efforts are limited when considering the scope of the human trafficking issue. The TVPA is only a foundation for the legislation necessary to combat this problem.;Social workers can make a marked contribution in the fight against human trafficking by advocating for social justice both domestically and abroad, helping to provide education and resources to those most vulnerable to trafficking, and aiding trafficking survivors. |
