| The purpose of this analysis was to explore, in depth, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000. As a response to this human rights violation the United States of America enacted The Trafficking Victims Protection Act in 2000. This act aimed at combating human trafficking through protection, prosecution and prevention. This analysis reports that there has been progress in providing adequate services to victims, bringing awareness to at risk communities and increased prosecution on the number of traffickers detained; however, the progress made is not considerable when the estimated number of people trafficked globally is 27 million. It is imperative for social workers to have an understanding of human trafficking, as this is one of the most vulnerable and oppressed populations. In order to provide the appropriate services needed and advocate for human rights, professional social workers must have the knowledge of the extent and gravity of modern day slavery. |
